About Eric
I was born and raised in Charleston, SC in a very musical family. My sisters and I were constantly singing and playing piano, and were very much encouraged by our parents to be creative. At the age of 13 I began playing the trombone. A move that I soon discovered would land me ZERO chicks. So, later that same year, to the dismay of my naval commander father, I received a guitar for Christmas. I sat in my room for hours and days learning all of the hair metal hits I could. As I moved into high school my guitar skills were improving. In the meantime I, began playing drums in the marching band. This would prove to be rhythmically invaluable to me throughout my music career. Still I continued to sit in my room with a guitar learning albums by Van Halen, Ozzy Ozbourne, and Skid Row. By the time I hit college I had no desire to be in school any longer, and dropped out to play in my first rock band. I toured throughout the southeast in various bands for the next 8 years with minimal success. Then in 2002 I formed the band Deepfield with Baxter Teal. We soon signed on with In De Goot records/McGathy Promotions in 2003. However during this time I found myself more and more drawn to producing, recording ,and studio process. I left Deepfield before our record was even recorded to pursue a producing and writing career. I remained in the studio for the next four years working with such bands as Tyler Read, Oh Juliet, The Working Title, and Souls Harbor. I was also asked by Billy Howerdell (A Perfect Circle/Ashes Divide) to write and record a song for the video game Jak X . During this time I started playing and practicing the bass on a daily basis. I became obsessed with the sound of bands that had really good rhythm sections like Rage Against the Machine, Muse, and Stone Temple Pilots. I started making the bass my main focus. Then in 2007, I opened my own recording studio , Ocean Industries. Later that summer, I got the chance to write and demo some songs with Shinedown. I got to know Brent and Barry pretty well in a short amount of time. Soon after, I got a call to audition for the bass player position that had become available. So, here I am. I have joined Shinedown and am ready to complete the rest of this story.
